A healthy breakfast: start your day with protein or fiber or both

Once I stopped eating processed foods, I had to figure out a new breakfast. My old go-to cereal was out of the picture. The traditional American breakfast of doughnuts was a definite no. Eggs, bacon or sausage and toast were not appealing. And while pancakes are delicious, I still didn't know how to make them the natural way. I also wanted to make sure I was getting plenty of protein in my diet. That's how I ended up incorporating more eggs, milk and yogurt into my breakfast for protein. I also have oatmeal with fruit, honey, maple syrup and or brown sugar for added sweetness. I later learned during my prgnancy that if you are experiencing any constipation it might be a good idea to make fiber the first meal of the day. In this case, including oatmeal, whole wheat toast or whole wheat pancakes might help. Just make sure it’s whole wheat because you will get a lot more fiber that way.
